[Mesa-users] [EXT] custom write photos

Mmh, you're right, not out of the box. I see an empty function in 
$MESA_DIR/binary/public/binary_def.f90 that provides an interface, and 
$MESA_DIR/binary/other/mod_other_binary_photo_write.f90 with a comment 
saying it's always called. You could probably use these functions to 
reimplement the content of $MESA_DIR/binary/private/binary_photo.f90, 
but I have never tried to do this (I only saved the photos for the stars 
not caring about the orbits)...
