First Announcement – Save the Dates

We are delighted to announce our upcoming workshop titled "Parameterizations for Global Dynamical Models in Climatology, Astrophysics, and Planetology," to be held in Les Houches, France, from March 16th to March 21st, 2025.

The workshop, supported by the Simons Foundation, will bring together researchers studying fluid mechanics problems relevant to small-scale/fast processes which are currently parameterized in global models. Many of these problems are common across various scientific disciplines, including atmospheric science, oceanography, planetology, and astrophysics. Our goal is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation by breaking down the traditional boundaries that often separate these scientific communities.

The Les Houches center is renowned for its contributions to research in physics and provides an inspiring backdrop for our gathering. Nestled amidst the Alps, the conference center offers an ideal setting for both intellectual exchange and outdoor pursuits, including skiing. Each of the five days of the workshop will commence with an hour-long keynote lecture, followed by contributed 30-minute talks and poster presentations. Our invited speakers include:

·      Christophe Gissinger (ENS Ulm)
·      Wanying Kang (MIT)
·      Julien Le Sommer (CNRS-IGE)
·      Sara Shamekh (Courant Institute)
The afternoons will have substantial time dedicated to discussions and/or outdoor activities.

Applications will be open from July 15th to September 15th 2024, with final decisions announced by the end of September 2024. Please note that the Les Houches center has a limited capacity of 70 participants. Special consideration will be given to PhD students / postdocs / early-career researchers, as well as to individuals from underrepresented communities.
