Hi João,
It depends on the star you want to model. If the stellar parameters of your simulation are close to those of the test_suite case, then you shouldn’t run into problems if you alter the ‘rn’ file, deleting lines 21 and 22 (which are the lines that tell MESA to run the inlists that do the evolution after core He burn), at which point it doesn’t matter what you do with the actual inlists.
Bear in mind that evolving a star through the RGB and the helium flash efficiently (and occasionally, at all) may require specific controls, so if you’re using 1M_pre_ms_to_wd to model something very different from a 1 solar mass, Z = 0.02 metallicity you may run into problems. You might also need to delete the “max_model_number = *” from the controls inlist.
Hope I could help!

Subject: [Mesa-users] Star evolution up to end of core helium burning from 1M_pre_ms_to_wd test suite
Dear users,
I want to modify the 1M_pre_ms_to_wd test suite in order to simulate a star up to the end of core helium burning. Is it enough to simply delete the inlists relating to later phases and run normally?
Best regards,
J.
