Dear Abhijnan,
you do not want to change the mass transfer rate, as that will affect both
the donor and the accretor. Also from the file you shared I'm not sure you
follow how to implement hooks. I would strongly encourage you to go in
detail through the instructions on using MESA (
https://docs.mesastar.org/en/release-r22.11.1/using_mesa.html) as well as
the lab for binary modelling Evan linked to (
https://orlox.github.io/mesa2022_hmxb/). Unless I'm missing something I
think specifying eta as I described should work for you, with some work you
can also account for the binding energy of accreted material (that's why I
said "more or less" in the previous email).
Please dig into these resources with care, and let us know what you find.
