Well it should only go in inlist1 or inlist2 star_jiob section (as those control the stars) not inlist_project (which controls the binary), hence the error message "Fortran runtime error: Cannot match namelist object name relax_mass" which is clearly telling you it's in the wrong namelist.

 !relax_mass = .true.
   !new_mass = 1.0

I assume you are uncommetning these options?

 relax_mass = .true.
  new_mass = 1.0

Otherwise they would have no effect.

Hi,

relax_mass should work for both stars (note you would need to specify it in both star's inlists). If you provide inlists, any error messages, and why you think it's not working for you, we can provide more help.
