On the website of MESA it says "By default at the start of a run a zams starting model is loaded, and then the initial_mass, initial_z, and initial_y" does it mean that I need just to make  ./rn and it will restart from the last models (test1.mod and test2.mod)?

I was restarting my runs from photos, I think this is a mistake from you are saying. How to save a model file for both binaries? Any documentation available on the MESA sourceforge?

Hi,

Yes you can stop the model, save a model file for each star (not a photo), then rerun mesa and load those models back in but with a new initial period. I use this when I want to ignore the companion (by putting the period at 1d8 days). The other option is just to save a model then load it in a star work directory rather than a binary work directory (so you do one star at a time without a companion).

To take mass off at a constant rate, in the controls inlist for each star you can set mass_change to a chosen Mdot or use one of the relax routines to remove mass. It's not clear from your question whether this worked? or there was an error? Or something else occurred?

What I am trying to do is to evolve two stars (5.5 for M1 and 3.79 for M2) with a period of 3 days. At a certain time the donor will fill it's Roche lobe and the period reached 90 days. I am also using mass loss fractions ( alpha and beta).

I tried to stop at this model and use the last model but with a different initial period ( my goal is to let the companion loose it's mass again) both stars are in a common envelope and want to take away that ...

Is it correct what I am doing ( I mean restarting the final model with a new period)? I also tried to relax both masses, used different wind scheme and trigger angular momentum without any success.


Any suggestions or help would be very appreciated!
