Super! 

That error message means the target radius of infall is larger than the radius of the excised core, so it will fail because it can’t “fall” to a radius outside the excised region. There is, unfortunately, no fix for that. 

One thing that may help also is increasing the minimum_dt in inlist edep to 1D-2, and continuing to explore different thermal bomb parameters.
