[Mesa-users] Pressure Scale Height and Overshoot

Hi,

I am currently running MESA r12778. I had some questions about overshoot
parameters.

>From the documentation, if overshoot_alpha is specified, the pressure scale
height to be used for overshoot is Hp = radial thickness of convective
layer / overshoot_alpha. If overshoot_alpha is not specified, then MESA
uses mixing_length_alpha for this calculation, but the documentation says
that the mixing length is given by mixing_length_alpha*Hp. This raises two
possibilities with different questions:
1) If Hp = radial thickness of convective layer / mixing_length_alpha, then
does MESA assume the mixing length of a convective layer is the entire
radial thickness of the convective layer?
2) If not, then how does MESA calculate the pressure scale height for
convection and overshooting? Also, how does MESA treat convective bubbles
that are created in the bulk of a convective region and have a mixing
length which makes them want to rise/sink past the convective boundaries?

All the best,
Charlie
