hi nick,

1) the video "Using pgstar for your MESA project - 2020 edition" at
https://youtu.be/JZFa4WURztI 
shows that $MESA_DiR/star/defaults/pgstar.defaults is one's friend.

2) the kipp capabilities of pgstar are somewhat limited relative to 
plotting a kippenhahn diagram outside of mesa. an example of such 
a tool would be rob farmer's excellent https://github.com/rjfarmer/mesaplot .
