Hi
The point of using a small timescale is that you do not want the model to
adapt to its new structure while you are still trying to relax the target
entropy profile. From the point of view of the star you want the entropy
relaxation to be "instantaneous" (or close to).
It seems like an excellent experiment for you to do, see what different
timescales do to your model and whether you think the results are adequate.
Remember there will be some differences between the pre/post imported model
due to differences in the EOS and other microphysics choices between the
codes.
