[Mesa-users] Regarding an error message while running pureHe-XRB

Hi Asit,

That is legwork you will probably have to do yourself because it often isn’t trivial. In general this usually involves (1) looking at the release notes for each version (e.g. http://mesa.sourceforge.net/release/2020/03/05/r12778.html) which I believe are all in the mailing list archives, (2) searching the mailing list archives (https://lists.mesastar.org/pipermail/mesa-users/) for the parameters that are giving you trouble, (3) performing some guess-and-check calculations.

Sometimes it is best to start from scratch with the new (or newer) version, rather than trying to modify inlists created based on an older version. You may also try to find a similar example based on a more recent version. For instance, for XRB’s Bill Wolf has a very nice tutorial based on version 11701 (https://billwolf.space/projects/leiden_2019/#part2).

Dear Prof. Anne Thoul,

Thank you very much for pointing out the issue. It will be very helpful if you help me to point out what are the main things that I have to change to get the expected result.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Asit

Dear Asit,

I suspect that the error is caused by the fact that you use a much more recent version of MESA (version 12778) than the one that was used in 2013 by Prof. Ed Brown.
You will have to edit the inlists and run_star_extras so that they are compatible with the version of MESA you are now using. Or use the MESA version (and sdk version) that was used by Prof. Brown in 2013.

Anne

Hello everyone,

I have recently downloaded a folder from http://cococubed.asu.edu/mesa_market/education.html, which was uploaded by Prof. Ed Brown in 2013 (which is available at https://zenodo.org/record/2603678#.X5GuQprhU5k<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fzenodo.org%2Frecord%2F2603678%23.X5GuQprhU5k&data=04%7C01%7Cmeisel%40ohio.edu%7C5e7ee974077c4a40762a08d876af07b1%7Cf3308007477c4a70888934611817c55a%7C0%7C0%7C637389841409019208%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=zFjS4tee%2FBx973lamFfMTn0ezFwpJa4l3u9%2BCQFKMdc%3D&reserved=0>). After that, I have copied the "pureHe-XRB" directory to my working folder and tried to run that. But when I tried to run I got an error message, which is given by as follows
