Hi Pablo & Manos,
I am following up on a chain in the MESA users list from last March,
about reproducing figure 8 of the MESA III paper with the massive
rotating binaries with the latest version of the code. I did exactly as
Manos did, downloading the inlists and changing the parameter names that
needed to be changed, and got exactly the same result, namely that the
run stops because of a small timestep when the primary has a mass just
below 13 Msun. I then tried Pablo's suggested fix, which is to set
w_div_wcrit_max=0.6 (instead of the default 0.9) for both stars.
Unfortunately this didn't work, and in fact the run stopped slightly
earlier, when the primary was around 13.2 Msun, also with the small
timestep issue. The secondary is rotating at almost critical at this
point, so the changed treatment of rotation will definitely affect the
evolution. The mass transfer efficiency seems to be going in the
opposite direction than the original plot though (Mdot2/Mdot1 heading
above 1) -- see attached figure, which is my version of figure 8.
There wasn't any other information on the users list that I could find.
Did you eventually get this to work, and if so, what did you do?
Cheers,
alison
