[Mesa-users] MESA r12778 runing on WSL 2 (Windows 10)

Dear MESA users,

I do not know if someone tried this before but I wanted to share with 
you my experience with the new WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and 
MESA. The new WSL 2 seems to be completely functional and I was able to 
install and run MESA (even plots!) without any issues so far. Here is an 
example:

To install the new WSL 2 you need the Windows 10 May 2020 Update (also 
referred to as "version 2004" and "20H1"). It was released during this 
month. My Windows specifications are Windows 10 pro, version 2004 and 
build number 19041.

To install WSL 2 I followed the steps indicated in the official 
Microsoft webpage: 
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10 . Then, you 
need to install a linux distro. I chose Ubuntu 20.04 LTS that can be 
found at the Microsoft Store. Tip: when I tried to install update to WSL 
2 after installing the 1 version, I got the following message in the 
PowerShell: 'WSL 2 requires an update to its kernel component.'. 
Installing the kernel solves the problem:

No further caveats needed to run MESA, once you follow its installation 
instructions. However, to make the pgplot windows appear needs a bit 
more work. First, you need to install an X11 server for windows. I tried 
VcXsrv: https://sourceforge.net/projects/vcxsrv/ . Launch it before 
opening the Ubuntu terminal and select the option "Disable access 
control" (default settings on the rest). It is important that the first 
time you launch the X server allows connections to VcXSrv from both 
Public and Private networks. Still, connection to X server did not 
worked for me. But I followed these instructions:

everything worked like a charm!

Hope this small tutorial helps you to enjoy MESA in Windows 10 too.
