interesting. i’ll dig into this a bit. the MESA2017 Summer School was done with version 9793, so I just did a checkout and build of that oldie. After turning off warnings as errors by deleting -Werror from utils/makefile_header I was able to build and run the irradiated_planet test case and see that it needed 69 retries and 1 backup to finish its final inlist in that version. In contrast the same test case finishes without any retries or backups in the current version of mesa. So whatever has changed hasn’t had a negative impact there. i’ll try doing a similar experiment with the 2017 summer school workshop to see if it works with 9793 when built with the current mesasdk and then what happens with newer versions of mesa in hopes of finding where it goes bad and what’s causing the problems.
