Hi Dr. Amber Lauer,

Thank you for your reply. My virtual hdd has free space of 35GB and memory of 2Gb. But the disk i install Mesa is on a shared disk from windows 7, i.e. disk mounted into the ubuntu system. Could that cause the problem? But i accidentally find that if i add some echo command in the build_data_and _export script file, the problem can be solved. Like below:

.....
echo 'xz -d kap_data.tar.xz'
echo 'before xz -d kap_data.tar.xz'
xz -d kap_data.tar.xz
echo 'before check_okay'
check_okay
echo 'after check_okay'
tar -xf kap_data.tar
check_okay
echo 'after tar -xf kap_data.tar'
rm kap_data.tar
echo 'after rm tar kap_data.tat'
......

Then the problem do not appear. The same thing exist in making ionization directory and i add echo command, it can run succesfully. So i'm puzzled to this solution. Could you figure out the reason?

OK. I suspect that your virtual hdd is not big enough, since the opacity files are the biggest part of MESA, size wise. What size did you set it at?

Thank you for your reply. I forgot to say that my 64bit-ubuntu is installed in the virtual machine VMware workstation version 10.0.6 build-2700073. My computer OS is windows 7-64bit. Could the virtual machine effect the building of Mesa?

Hi Chen, is this the ubuntu linux subsystem on Windows? Or are you running a virtual machine?

in my experience, such errors arose from a 32 bit OS trying to
operate on a file larger than it can handle (~2 GB).
mesa requires a 64 bit OS.

i don't know enough about ubuntu to say anything more.
