[Mesa-users] question about the mass transfer

Dear Zhang,

this is likely an issue with the tolerance to which the mass transfer rate
is being computed. When using the roche_lobe scheme the tolerance defines
how far R is from R_RL during the mass transfer process. Essentially, you
will have (R-R_RL)/R_RL < tolerance during a mass transfer phase. You might
want to try smaller values for the tolerance, given by the
implicit_scheme_tolerance option in inlist_project (try for instance 1d-4).
You might also want to reconsider using the roche_lobe scheme, and
switching to the Kolb scheme, in the regime you're working with the
pressure scale height near the surface of the star becomes comparable to
its radius, and treating the photosphere as a hard rim (which is what the
roche_lobe scheme does) is not a good approximation.

If that does not work, I could try something out if you send me inlists
that work with the latest MESA version. Your current inlists do not, and I
don't really know what version you used for that simulation.

Cheers
