The build system may not have noticed the change.  If you want to try that
approach again, you can make your pgstar.defaults edits and then go into
the star directory and do

touch private/pgstar_ctrls_io.f90
./mk
./export

then don't forget to do ./mk in your MESA work directory afterwards.
