[Mesa-users] MesaReader Python Plotting Issue

Dear MESA users,

I am having an issue with plotting my data from a standard 1M_pre_ms_to_wd run from v11701 using the MesaReader Python module. When I try to plot any variable against time, the script freezes and is unable to produce a plot. If I plot two other variables (effective temperature and luminosity, for example), I do not run into this issue (although Python is a little slower than usual to open the figure).

After some significant googling, I tried a number of suggestions, and when I use two of these suggestions (noted in attached .py file) with non-MESA data, I'm able to produce a plot. When I try to use MESA data, the freezing issue returns. This is new for me, as I recently updated to v11701, and I did not have the same problem when I was using data from v10378.

I've included a copy of the Python code I'm using to plot. The exact same code, without the suggestions noted, works with data from v10378--I did test that to make sure.

I wondered if this was an issue anyone else had run into, and if so, what workarounds you found.

I'm using Python 2.7.
