Yes.  That makes sense.  

I don't have that much of a time constraint, so that's not a big deal to me.

Perhaps a constructive way to determine which value to use the stopping
condition is to consider the luminosity of events that we think are
attributable to accreting White Dwarfs.  I'll look into that.

the choice of stopping at 1e8 Lsun is a) sufficient to show vigorous burning
of carbon has begun, with peak temps ~ 2e9 k, and b) completes in a time
that is reasonable for nightly runs of the entire test suite. there is no
magic in 1e8 Lsun, one could have equally well chosen other stopping
conditions for the purpose of a test suite case.
