[Mesa-users] Turning off angular momentum transfer in MESA

Hi Thomas,

these type of options are part of the binary module, and you can look
what's available under $MESA_DIR/binary/defauls/binary_controls.defaults.
In particular you would be interested in this option

do_j_accretion ¶
If true, compute accretion of angular momentum following A.3.3 of de Mink
et al. 2013, ApJ, 764, 166. Otherwise, incoming material is assumed to have
the specific angular momentum of the surface of the accretor
###

You have to beware how MESA actually adds mass into a stellar model. For
newly added layers their angular momentum content needs to be specified
somehow. There's no such thing as simply turning off angular momentum
transfer. If you have a different model for the amount of angular momentum
that would be accreted, you can take a look at the
use_other_accreted_material_j option, which let's you specify any
prescription you want for the angular momentum of newly accreted layers.
