Hi Karen,

The MESA website is set up to help you learn how to use MESA but it's not
going to provide the same level of information as, say, an introductory
course on stellar astrophysics.

In MIST we have two inlists that cover 0.1 to 100+ solar masses. We split
the two inlists at the boundary between stars that will proceed to core
carbon burning and those that will not. However, this is only possible
because we make heavy use of run_star_extras to turn on or off certain
aspects of the code. This includes, but is not limited to, different
stellar mass loss recipes that are valid for different stellar categories.

Frank suggests taking a look at the MIST papers and I would also recommend
to first read carefully all of the MESA papers, if you haven't already.
Some insight to, e.g., the differences between a brown dwarf and a 15 solar
mass star are to be found in the MESA papers. Links to them all here:

http://waps.cfa.harvard.edu/MIST/references.html

Even with considerable experience in the construction of isochrones from
stellar evolution tracks, the MIST project took us 4 years from beginning
to publication of the MIST papers.

If you'd like to discuss isochrones further, you are welcome to contact me
off-list.

Cheers,
Aaron
