Thanks for your question! The answer to your question is no. if you set  'create_pre_main_sequence_model = .false.', then MESA constructs the starting model from a set of pre-built (zero-age main sequence) models which have solar metallicity. Trying to set a metallicity other than solar with these pre-built models will result in an error.
