hi aman,

mesa calculates the evolution of single and binary stars.
it will not do what you want. to do what you want, at zeroth order,
integrate a chosen initial mass function (imf) over a mass range.

for example, the fraction of all stars ever born with a mass > 8 msun

f = integral_8^100 imf * d(log M) / integral_0.1^100 imf * d(log M)
