Hi everyone,
I am trying to make highly irradiated sub-Neptune size planetary models. For this I am
closely following the Summer School 2017 instructions by
Leslie A. Rogers. But when I tried to run my models for core mass 4 M_earth and 20 %
envelope at very close distance (0.01 A.U.) from a sun
twin star, I always ran into some trouble.
I used this formula flux_dayside = Lsun/(4*pi*d**2)
For :
years_for_initial_dt = 1.d-6
relax_irradiation_max_yrs_dt = 1d-1
irrad_col_depth = 1 ! g cm^-2
set_to_this_tau_factor = 100
I get the following at a certain point
relax irradiation, model, step, fraction done, flux 1052 51 0.510E+00
0.696E+10
hydro_newton_step failed to accept
retry log10(dt/yr), log10(dt), retry_factor 1 1053 -1.602060
5.897052 0.500000
hydro_newton_step failed to accept
retry log10(dt/yr), log10(dt), retry_factor 2 1053 -1.903090
5.596022 0.500000

retry log10(dt/yr), log10(dt), retry_factor 1 1052 -2.204120
5.294992 0.500000
retry log10(dt/yr), log10(dt), retry_factor 2 1052 -2.505150
4.993962 0.500000

retry log10(dt/yr), log10(dt), retry_factor 1 1052 -3.408240

retry log10(dt/yr), log10(dt), retry_factor 2 1052 -3.709270
3.789842 0.500000
have reached retry limit so now backup
hydro_newton_step failed to accept
retry log10(dt/yr), log10(dt), retry_factor 1 1052 -5.214420
2.284692 0.500000
hydro_newton_step failed to accept
retry log10(dt/yr), log10(dt), retry_factor 2 1052 -5.515450
1.983662 0.500000
have reached retry limit so now backup
hydro_newton_step failed to accept
retry log10(dt/yr), log10(dt), retry_factor 1 1052 -7.622660
-0.123548 0.500000
relax irradiation, model, step, frac, flux, wait for dt 1052 51 0.510E+00
0.696E+10
The terminal kept showing me this untill I manually stop the process after many models
:
relax irradiation, model, step, frac, flux, wait for dt 3552 51 0.510E+00
0.696E+10
Now when I used irrad_col_depth = 10 (or 100) I get similar output but this time it is
stuck at 11% (or 1%).
However when I reduce tau factor drastically (irrad_col_depth = 0.01 ! g cm^-2) the
relax irradiation process gets done but then while gets
stuck at evolution :

As you can see the lg_dt_yr is very low and and it oscillates around and the process
stops due to reaching maximum model number. I have tested
this
by increasing the maximum model number significantly, but no effect.
So I want to ask that what am I doing wrong. I also want to ask what should be the
optimal values of these parameters (years_for_initial_dt,
relax_irradiation_max_yrs_dt, irrad_col_depth,set_to_this_tau_factor) for highly
irradiated situation and in general how they relate to
successful compilation of the code and what should I keep in mind while changing these
parameters.
I know I am asking for a lot but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
Tuhin Ghosh
