[Mesa-users] Trying to inject energy into a star

Hello,

My name is Yotam Cohen and I’m an astronomy graduate student at Yale University.

This isn’t exactly troubleshooting, but I was hoping someone could help me set up the following situation in MESA. Basically, I want to set up a normal stellar model but I want to inject an anomalous source of energy into the star. More specifically, I would like to be able to inject the energy at a specific zone or zones, say at each zone between R_i and R_j for this example, and I want to do it at specific timesteps, say between T_i and T_j, and I want to inject a certain fraction of the overall stars luminosity, say 1%, into each of those zones during each of those timesteps.

Now, I understand how to setup the vanilla stellar model, and I understand that I can achieve what I’m trying to do using the run_star_extras module, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to exactly go about it. I’m a MESA novice and a Fortran novice, so my main problems are: 1) I don’t know the names of or how to properly access the arrays/quantities that I’m trying to use and 2) I don’t know how/where exactly within the run_star_extras module to set up this code.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I can provide any more information, please let me know.
