[Mesa-users] Pitfalls of eosPTEH?

Hello MESA users & developers,

I'm trying to reproduce the simulations I did for my paper (https://arxiv.org/abs/1812.08793) with the latest MESA code, but they fail immediately with a lot of retries and backups. I managed to determine that version number 10,204--specifically, the introduction of eosPTEH--is what broke my simulations. Turning off PTEH by setting use_eosPTEH_with_eosDT = .false. and use_PTEH_for_high_Z = .false. fixes the problem.

Is there a reason why PTEH isn't good to use in my scenario, namely iron enriched C/O white dwarfs with hot inflated envelopes? Reading the latest release notes, it seems like low density and high metallicity environments are precisely what PTEH is meant for, so I have no idea why MESA can't even find a first model.

Thanks for any help,

Michael
