[Mesa-users] Error in CCSN Test-Suite

Hi Prathmesh,

As others have said, by default the example_ccsn_IIp test case does not
incorporate the effects of rotation, but this is in principle something you
might be able to add yourself (such as in the ways suggested).

Does this imply that I can't use rotating models with Stella?
>

Example_ccsn_IIp does not, itself, run Stella at all. Rather, it explodes
the star in MESA and writes out profiles at shock breakout which can be
input into Stella: mesa.hyd, which includes hydrodynamical/thermal
information about the ejecta (such as velocities, temperatures, densities),
and mesa.abn, which includes chemical/isotopic information. These .hyd and
.abn files do not contain rotation information, so Stella, by design, does
not include rotation. After going through example_ccsn_IIp, one must still
run Stella using those mesa.hyd and mesa.abn files in order to get light
curves and other information about evolution post-shock-breakout (you may
already know this, but it is important to state for other interested
users).

However, to echo what Frank said, rotation should matter most *before* a
model gets to the point where it is ready to input into example_ccsn_IIp.
It should generally not be an issue during the explosion, as rotation
timescales pre-collapse should hopefully be much slower than the explosion
timescale.

Hope this helps!

~Jared
