one way to learn how to pulsate models with mesa/gyre 
is to point your browser to mesastar.org

click on education.
there you will see previous mesa summer school labs,
which offer a solid knowledge gaining experience. perhaps
start with conny aert's 2016 lab or alfred gautschy's 2016 lab.

click on guides.
click on warrick ball's overview of the astero module.
