[Mesa-users] mass transfer low and intermediate binary stars

Hi Seblu,
There was a change in a default setting between 9575 and 9793 that may be relevant for your models. In 9575 and older versions, “limit_retention_by_mdot_edd” was set to .true. by default. If no positive value is specified for “use_this_for_mdot_edd”, then this setting calculates the Eddington accretion rate by assuming that the accretor is a black hole. This is therefore NOT appropriate for cases where you are evolving both stars and the accretor is a star rather than black hole. To make sure users don’t accidentally leave this setting on when setting evolve_both_stars = .true., the default for “limit_retention_by_mdot_edd” was changed to .false. for version 9793 and later (including 10000). You can read more details in the documentation for these controls here: http://mesa.sourceforge.net/binary_controls_defaults.html#mass_transfer_controls <http://mesa.sourceforge.net/binary_controls_defaults.html#mass_transfer_controls>
If you still want to limit accretion by the Eddington rate, you will need to use the “use_this_for_mdot_edd” control to set a value that is appropriate for your accreting model.
Cheers,
Evan

When i was running mesa-r10000 from binary/set_suite/ i donot get a simulation (plot) for mass transfer in low and intermediate binary stars, since we have only evolve_both_stars (this is for massive stars). Through mesa-r10000 running how we can get the plot between donor and accereto stars, implicit_mdot and for both?, it is strange to find the results b/n 10^2-10^9. However,
