Dear Bill,

Let me share my story:
In ~2009, midway in my PhD work, I was desperately looking for a stellar structure and evolution code to compute blue supergiant models! At the time, I was working in Iran. I sent several emails to many scientists who had developed such codes, or had official access to them, and no body ever replied to my emails/requests. But, when I asked for a copy of EZ-web, you offered me a better: MESA :-)
With that came my first models of blue supergiants and helped me see the light.

I shared this story just to say that since 2007 the open-source philosophy behind MESA has brought a paradigm shift in the physics of  gaseous bodies (0.001 to 1000 Msun?), which — to my limited knowledge — no other code was capable of undertaking. Open-source is the correct way of doing science.

A sincere thanks goes to the MESA board/supporters, and specifically to you Bill.
