I'm not sure what version of MESA that was used in that paper, but since
the run_star_extras mentions "alert_lib", that puts it in the 4000s or
before.  If you just want to run it, you should probably use the same
version of MESA as that paper.

If you do want to run it in a recent version of MESA, I think you'll be
better off starting from a fresh work directory and copying over the
things you need from the inlists and run_star_extras file one-by-one,
cleaning up incompatibilities as you go.

You might also want to directly contact the author (Pavel Denissenkov)
for assistance in getting things running.
