Additionally to Pablo’s suggestions I’d suggest increasing time and (especially) spatial resolution of your models. Try playing with mesh settings (http://mesa.sourceforge.net/controls_defaults.html#mesh_adjustment <http://mesa.sourceforge.net/controls_defaults.html#mesh_adjustment>) because it certainly helps with convergence.
