[mesa-users] Converging an AGSS05 Solar model

Hello,

    I will begin trying to using the solar_calibration model. Also, When I set:

     create_pre_main_sequence_model = .true.

the model errors and fails to converge no matter the mixing parameter or initial abundances I try. Nonetheless, thank you all for your help, and please let me know if you are able to successfully converge an AGS05 model if possible.

Ebraheem

Hi Ebraheem,

It is more difficult to fit the solar sound speed profile with the Asplund et al. (2004) solar abundances than it is with the older Grevesse & Noels (1993) or Grevesse & Sauval (1998). This is a common result in the literature and has been the subject of many studies. See, for example, these:

Hopefully that is just a typo in the file you sent but it should be: (you have an extra .)
initial_h1 =0.6805

How close do you get? Also what happens if you run from the pre-MS with your chosen composition? In star_job set:

create_pre_main_sequence_model = .true.

You might want to look at and run the solar_calibration (takes a while to run) with your choice of AGS05. This tries to make the "best" solar model by tweaking the inputs, look for its vary_ options in inlist_astero_search_controls and matching the model to the solar data.

Hello all,

    I'm attempting to converge an AGS05 model of the sun using the example_solar_model in the test_suite. This has worked for all other Opacities and abundances including AGSS09, GS_98, and GN_93. My current problem is that I can't seem to converge the model for the AGS05 opacities and abundances.

    I have set:

      z_frac = 5(Ags05 z fracs)

      kappa_file_prefix = 'a05+Ne'
      kappa_lowT_prefix = 'lowT_fa05_ags04' ! for lower temperatures.

------------------------

Still, I can't get the correct surface abundances of 0.0165=z/x along with L =1 and R=1. The one time I got very close, the sound speeds looked nothing like I believe they should(sound_standard.png).

****Typically, after changing the Z-fracs and kappa files, I adjust the initial H1 and He4 along with he mixing length alpha to converge the model.***

Any tips?

Thanks,

Ebraheem
