[mesa-users] Mesa sound speeds

Thanks for the information! Can I ask which column in the profile you used to plot sound speeds? I'm seeing the same output in your profile as I have in mine, so I suspect I'm looking at the wrong one. For example: at a radius of about 0.9, the bp98 sound speed is about 1.1*10^6, where as mesa cspeed column says about 1.1*10^7 . If you could clear this up for me it would be greatly appreciated.

I just checked my recent run of the example_solar_model test case -- the comparison plot of sound speed from the model compared to the data from BP98.  I include BP98 data and the profile from mesa.

it's an interpolation. I've plotted the actual data from the logs. They vary by the same magnitude.  I personally took all 3000 zones and interpolated myself in a seperate file to make sure. Here's a better plot i made previously. one is both plotted against each other. and the other is the actualy sound speed difference plot. it look coherent for low radii but diverges very quickly. the x axis is raidus. one is my mesa cspeed, the other is healioseismic data.  This data looks different due to some scaling on the y-axis.   Ignoring the previous plot i sent, which uses fortan type inerpolations, does the diveregence i'm talking about make sense? the sound speeds seem way too high for large radii
