[mesa-users] MESA on SourceForge

Hi Frank et al.  Might this be a time to potentially explore switching over
to a distributed version control system, like git or hg? and hosting on
github or bitbucket?  There are a few advantages to the community.

(1) everyone would have a full-fledged repo, so they can go back in time on
their own, without communicating with sf.net, if it goes down.  and

(2) with github (or similar sites), external users can directly send
changes to the official source and ask for them to be incorporated (via a
pull request).  I know that this is done through Bill now (and I never
cease to be amazed at how Bill stays on top of everything), but there is an
important advantage for young contributors with the official pull-request
mechanism.  If someone's changes are incorporated into MESA, then their
name forever lives on in the git history for MESA for all to see.  This is
a nice way that people can show their contributions and get credit in the
community.

There are other advantages, like lightweight branches that can be used to
develop new features, etc.

Anyway, something to think about.  There are a lot of astro projects that
have switched over to distributed version control.  yt does this quite well
(and some yters lurk here and can chime in).
