[mesa-users] PGPLOT /xw: cannot connect to X server

I am trying to access MESA-r6794 remotely: ssh -Y username at remotemachine.edu
MESA runs successfully on both machines locally.
When I use my laptop to run MESA on the remote machine, i get the following error regarding PGPLOT.

PGPLOT /xw: cannot connect to X server []

PGSTAR: failed to open /xwin

 please check that X Window System is running
 and that you have set the environment variables
 DISPLAY :0
 PGPLOT_DEV /xwin
 and also that you have set PGPLOT_DIR and PGPLOT_FONT

 Abundance ierr          -1
 init_pgstar ierr          -1
 onScreen_Plots ierr          -1
 update_pgstar_plots ierr          -1

I have also tried running from the remote machine making sure x11 was already running on my local machine.
