You'll need to dig into the code in net/private to see what's going on with compound reactions.

This will take some time, but you will learn what's actually happening -- and you'll probably help make it better.

The about-to-be-released version of mesa cleans out a lot of junk in net that was leftover from last year's playing with larger hardwired nets (another good idea that died when exposed to the rigors of stellar evolution).    so you might wait for that, or grab 6480 and get started now.   I'll do what i can to help.
