Try sudo apt-get install libx11-dev ??

I.e. with a lower-case 'x'.

If you look at (for example:
http://root.cern.ch/drupal/content/build-prerequisites), then you'll see
that Ubuntu has a lower-case (libx11-dev) whereas Fedora/SL6 has
libX11-devel. I've had a similar problem before on Ubuntu.
