[mesa-users] extra_controls seemingly not redirecting a pointer to new subroutine

Thanks Josiah, that worked.

For reference, the "advice" on how to do it the old way was inside the file $MESA/star/other/other_energy.f even in the MESA version you are talking about, r4798, which is what I am running. I see this is the same in other other_*.f in the same directory.
