This is exactly why the SDK is recommended and has found widespread use.
No need to fiddle with installing the latest binaries on your system --
which unless you run something with rolling releases like Arch or Gentoo
is likely to be at least a mild inconvenience.

With the SDK, just untar the bundle Rich Townsend supplies, plop in in
/opt/ or wherever, set some environment variables and you're off.
