[mesa-users] Atmosphere problem causing profiles not to be saved

Hi everyone,

I encountered a problem while using MESA star. For some stars, at some
point in the run, MESA has a problem with something called
do_create_Paczynski_atm. After that, even though it keep adding lines to
the history.data file, it is not saving any more profiles, like it's trying
again and again to save the one that failed. I attached the terminal output
(error_MESA_create_atm.log)  from when it happens. In this example
(z=0.0001000, M=3.40, L=1.8) the problem occurs at profile 1172. The
numbers here is 72 because I had it restarted at 1100 to look at it. What
is happening here ?

It seems to be happening quite a lot since I noticed this problem when I
realized than a part of my stars had a discrepancy between the number of
lines in the history.data files and the actual number of profiles saved. I
have a lot of different computed stars, with different metallicities and
masses. I attached a list (filecount_difference) of them with for each, the
difference between the number of lines in the history.data file (minus the
header lines) and the number of step saved as profiles. It is almost always
positive, and stars around 1 Msol seems to have much less profiles than
expected, most probably because of this atmosphere problem.

Finally, I attached a HR path of a 1Msol star (HR_1M_z0.0001000.ps) with
the thickened part matching the part before the atmosphere problem, the
rest wasn't saved as profiles.
