Hi MESAnauts --
I've just uploaded a beta release of the MESA SDK for Linux machines:
http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~townsend/resource/download/mesasdk/mesasdk-x86_64-linux-20120622.tar.gz (for 64-bit machines)
http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~townsend/resource/download/mesasdk/mesasdk-i686-linux-20120622.tar.gz (for 32-bit machines)
I'd appreciate it if Linux users could give these releases a try, and let me know if things go smoothly or if they run into any problems.
Important changes since the previous release are as follows:
*) There is now no longer a need to install the SDK in /opt -- it can be put anywhere, so long as the MESASDK_ROOT environment variable is set up to point to the installation location. Most importantly, this means that root privileges are no longer required.
*) Issues with Ubuntu systems not being able to find library (.so) files have now been fixed. This means it shouldn't be necessary to set any LIBRARY_PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH or LD_RUN_PATH variables anymore.
*) Likewise, issues with Ubuntu systems not being able to find the correct header files have now been fixed.
*) Issues with the creation of PNG images have now been fixed.
Happy compiling!
cheers,
Rich
PS When upgrading to the new SDK, don't forget to do a ./clean before you ./install MESA.
