[mesa-users] Fundamental Modes from ADIPLS/MESA

Hi,
I am trying to use ADIPLS for calculating a few modes. I used the ADIPLS
routines to convert the FGONG to AMDL model file. However, it seems it also
needs agsm and ssm files as input files. I am wondering how to obtain the
agsm and ssm files.

Thank you very much!

best wishes,
Gongjie Li

Hi Bill,

In case you're still in search of an answer...

If you've had MESA output FGONG files (see star_defaults.dek entry
write_pulse_info_with_profile and related info), then it is fairly
straightforward to run ADIPLS on the FGONG output (also, be sure you have
set "calculate_Brunt_N2 = .true." in your &controls inlist). I >haven't yet
run ADIPLS as an integrated step in MESA, although my understanding is that
may be under development.

>As far as I know, the current ADIPLS integration with MESA is for matching
to a set of observed oscillation frequencies from asteroseismic
observations (which is not something I, myself, do). You can see the
controls for this in mesa/astero/test/inlist_
oscillation_controls, but I can't claim to have a much better understanding
of what's going on there than you.

To just use ADIPLS for calculating a few modes, you can try the following:
First, make sure that ADIPLS has been compiled and the binaries are in your
path (if you're not sure, follow the instructions in
mesa/adipls/readme_ADIPLS_standard). You will need to use the ADIPLS
routines to convert the FGONG to and AMDL model file, write an inlist file
(like that in mesa/adipls/test/adipls.c.in), and then run adipls.n.d with
the inlist file as input, from the command line. This will compute the
modes based on the input variables you specify in your adipls inlist. The
meanings of the different variables in the inlist are pretty well described
in mesa/adipls/adipack.c/notes/operation.pdf.

P.S. I'm running MESA 3851.

pre-made model in the test suite, but again, I'm not quite sure what's
going on there.
