Hi Silvia,

This is an unfortunate mistake in nature that breaks mesa.  ;-)

We seem to be running into some sort of pulsation instability,
perhaps related to iron bump in opacities combined with higher
luminosities.   Maybe Falk can fill in some details on this.

You might try reducing Z to see what it takes to get 5 Msun beyond the AGB.
Or you can resort to "stellar engineering" and artificially remove the envelope
by doing something like I do in star/test_suite/make_co_wd.
